Emory Softball Plays Host To Trine University In Atlanta Super Regional

The No. 15-ranked Emory softball team, fresh off a championship effort in regional play, will   serve as the host for the Atlanta Super Regional this Friday and Saturday (May 16 & 17).

The Eagles, 39-7 on the year, will battle Trine University of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in a best two-of-three format with the first game slated for a 4:00 pm start on Friday.  On Saturday, action begins at 1:00 pm with a 3:30 contest on deck if necessary.

Playing before its home crowd, Emory won all three outings of the Atlanta Regional, defeating Agnes Scott, 5-1, in its opening game before rallying for an intense 13-12 triumph over No. 14 Piedmont on Saturday.  The Eagles punched their ticket to the Super Regional on Sunday, defeating Piedmont again by a 6-1 count.  Senior pitcher Amanda Kardys figured in all three victories, raising her season record to 27-1, while classmate Megan Light was named the Most Outstanding Player.  The Eagles' 39 triumphs represent the fourth-highest seasonal total in program history.

Trine, led by 11th-year head coach Donnie Danklefsen, is ranked No. 7 in the D-III ranks and earned its trip to the Super Regionals in dramatic fashion, defeating Muskingum twice on Sunday.  The Thunder, 41-4 on the year, post an impressive hitting mark of .372 and have socked 48 home runs.
