No. 9 Emory Softball Splits Doubleheader At Berry College

The Emory softball team closed out back-to-back days of road doubleheader action on Wednesday, splitting a twnibill against Berry College.  The Vikings bested the Eagles by a 3-1 count in the opener before Emory bounced back with a 5-1 triumph in the finale.  No. 9-ranked Emory stands 25-3 in overall play while Berry closes out the day at 19-6.

Emory 5, Berry 1 – Emory salvages the split as sophomore pitcher Brittany Files tosses a complete-game five hitter, striking out nine, as she raises her season record to 10-2 … File has fanned a total of 254 batters during her Emory career, good for seventh-place on the program's all-time ladder … Senior Micah Scharff and junior Alyssa Pollard hit safely twice and post their 10th multi-hit games of the year … Scharff adds three RBIs while Pollard knocks in one run and scores twice … Berry scores its only run in the bottom of the first, but its lead is short lived as Emory knots the score in its half of the second when a single by Amy Wray knocks in Tara Fallahee … The Eagles take the lead for good in the fifth when Scharff singles home Pollard … Scharff gives Emory some insurance runs with a two-run single in the sixth that pushes Pollard and Ashley Powers across the plate … A two-out single by Pollard scores Fallahee with the game's final run in the top of the seventh.

Berry 3, Emory 1 – Emory see its 13-game win streak come to an end as BC pitcher Kassie Howard limits the Eagles to three hits … The Vikings score all of their runs in the bottom of the second when Kenzie Fleming hits a two-run homer, followed by a solo shot from Elisabeth Federici … Sophomore Amy Wray accounts for Emory's lone run when she hits her fourth home run of the year in the top of the fourth … Junior pitcher Sydney Carpenter is saddled with her first setback of the season in 14 decisions, despite allowing just four hits and striking out nine.

Emory returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 4, when it hosts Birmingham Southern in a doubleheader starting at noon.
