Seeing its first action in over 10 days, the Emory softball team dropped both games of a home doubleheader against NAIA member Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday. The Eagles suffered a 7-0 setback in the opener before coming out on the short end of a 5-0 decision in the nightcap. Emory now stands 28-6 on the season while GGC is 32-12.
Georgia Gwinnett 5, Emory 0 – GGS hurler Katie Lange holds Emory without a hit until two outs in the sixth, and goes on to earn a complete-game win, surrendering four hits … Sophomores Taylor Forte, Tara Fallahee and Amy Wray, along with freshman Janelle Turnquest account for Emory's hit total … GGC scores single runs in the third and sixth innings before crossing the plate on three occasions in the seventh … Georgia Gwinnett finishes with an opponent season-high 11 hits against the Emory pitching corps.
Georgia Gwinnett 7, Emory 0 – Tara Fallahee and Janelle Turnquest each pick up two hits for the Eagles … A two-out single by the Grizzlies' Haley Thompson in the top of the third drives in the opening run of the contest … Georgia Gwinnett tacks on four runs in its half of the fourth with a bases-loaded walk to Thompson accounting for the first tally in the frame … Thompson later scores as a result of a single by Jordyn Fones … Emory junior pitcher Sydney Carpenter takes the loss, just her second in 15 decisions … Emory puts its first two batters on base in the first and third innings, but double plays snuff out those potential rallies .
Emory returns to action on Wednesday (Apr. 22) when it hosts Shorter in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm.
