The Emory softball team split a home doubleheader against Shorter University Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles fell in the first game, 9-3, before registering the split with an 8-6 triumph in the finale. Emory now stands 29-7 on the year.
Emory 8, Shorter 6 – Emory snaps a three-game losing skid with a 12-hit attack that features three home runs and four doubles … Junior Hannah Sendel delivers a 4-for-4 effort at the plate with a pair of doubles and home runs, her 12th and 13th round trippers of the campaign, to highlight the offensive fireworks … Her 13 homers this year rank third on the program's seasonal chart … Freshman Janelle Turnquest runs her hit streak to six games with a pair of safeties in three plate appearances and knocks in three runs … Sophomore pitcher Brittany File raises her record to 13-4 after tossing all seven innings and fanning five … A double by Sendel and a single by freshman Ashley Powers drive in Emory's first two runs … Sendel hits the first of her two homers, a two-out, two-run blast, in the second inning, giving Emory 4-1 edge … Sendel propels Emory to a 6-2 cushion in the fourth with a two-out solo shot … Turnquest closes out Emory's scoring in the fifth with a two-run homer.
Shorter 9, Emory 3 – After claiming a 1-0 lead after the first, the Hawks put five runs up in the second, all unearned, with Kendall Johnson coming through with the big hit, a grand slam … Junior Alyssa Pollard and sophomore Tara Fallahee each collect a pair of hits with Fallahee registering one RBI … It represents Fallahee's 13th multi-hit contest of the season and Pollard's 12th.
Emory is scheduled to close out the regular-season portion of its schedule on Friday (Apr. 24) when it plays a doubleheader at Maryville College (14-23), with action starting at 3:00 p.m.
