Emory Softball Player Brittany File Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has released the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District teams in softball with Emory sophomore pitcher Brittany File (Carmel, CA) earning a spot on the coveted list.

File has compiled a 17-4 record in the circle with her victory total ranking second in the University Athletic Association.  The owner of a 2.40 ERA, she has tossed 125 1/3 innings and struck out 147 batters, good for the No. 2 spot on the league ladder and fifth on the program's seasonal chart. She is averaging 8.21 strikeouts per seven innings, second in the conference and 22nd nationally.  This past weekend, she was named to the NCAA Atlanta Region All-Tournament Team after recording all three of the team's wins that resulted in a championship.  She tossed back-to-back two-hit shutouts against LaGrange College (2-0) and Averett University (1-0), and tossed 7 2/3 frames of relief in an eight-inning, 4-2 win over Berry College that clinched the title.  Earlier in the year, she fired the Eagles' first seven-inning no-hitter since 2005 in a 3-0 win vs. Fontbonne (Mar. 21).

In the classroom, File, a neuroscience and behavioral biology major, maintained a 3.80 grade-point average through fall of 2014.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Emory's representatives are District 5 selections from Division III institutions comprised from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The honor is awarded annually to student athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically.  To be eligible, a nominee must have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at his/her current institution, carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and be a starter or key reserve.

By virtue of being selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, File will advance to the national ballot for the Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

File and her teammates continue their season this Friday and Saturday (May 15-16) when they play at UT-Tyler in the NCAA D-III Super Regional.
