Scharff & File Capture UAA Softball Honors

Scharff & File Capture UAA Softball Honors

Emory University senior Micah Scharff (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore Brittany File (Carmel, CA) have been recognized by the University Athletic Association for their play in helping the Eagles' softball team to a championship in the NCAA D-III Atlanta Softball Regional.

Scharff hit .444, collecting four hits in nine trips to the plate, and scored a team-high four runs. She hit safely in all three contests, including a 2-for-4 effort with three runs scored and a leadoff home run in a 4-2 eight-inning victory over Berry College that clinched the regional title.  Earlier in the weekend, she drew a walk in the first inning and scored what proved the winning run in a 2-0 decision over LaGrange.   On the year, Scharff leads the team with a .396 mark (43-of-110) at the plate with 27 RBIs and a team-high 14 doubles. It is the first time this year and third time in her career that she has been recognized by the league.

File was selected as the UAA Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season and fourth in her career after recording all three of the Eagles' victories that allowed the squad to advance to the Super Regional.   She tossed 21 2/3 innings of the team's 22 innings and compiled an impressive ERA of 0.65, allowing 12 hits and striking out a total of 19 batters.  She opened the Regional with a complete-game, two-hit whitewash of LaGrange College, striking out eight batters in a 2-0 victory.  She followed that performance with another two-hit shutout, fanning five in the process, as the Eagles topped No. 21 Averett, 1-0.  In what proved to be the Regional clinching contest, File came on in relief to hurl 7 2/3 innings in Emory's 4-2 victory in eight innings against Berry College, surrendering eight hits while striking out six.  File now stands 17-4 on the season with 147 strikeouts in 125 1/3 innings of action.

No. 7-ranked Emory, 34-7 on the year, will play at No. 2-ranked UT-Tyler in the Super Regional this Friday and Saturday (May 15-16).
