Emory University junior Brittany File (Carmel, CA) has been named as the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week after figuring in all four decisions and helping the Eagles to a championship at the NCAA Mount Berry Regional. It is the fifth time this year and eighth in her career that she has garnered the award.
File went 3-1 at the Regional, tossing 27 of a possible 29 innings and finishing with an ERA of 1.56. She recorded three complete games in four starts and ended the weekend with 34 strikeouts, boosting her season total to a school record 307.
She fanned 10 batters and allowed just one hit in the Regional opener, a 3-1 triumph vs. Birmingham Southern, and followed that effort with a 12-strikeout performance in a 5-2 win vs. Berry College. In the deciding game of the Regional, File went all eight innings, allowing just one earned run and fanning eight, in a 5-4 decision over Berry College. On the year, File has struck out 10 or more batters on 13 occasions.
File heads into the NCAA Super Regional with a won-loss record of 33-3, with her victory total leading all D-III players. Her strikeout total is second nationally and her average of 10.6 strikeouts per seven innings is good for the No. 3 slot in the Division III ranks.
Emory, 43-5 on the year, will host Benedictine University in the Super Regional this weekend, May 20-21.
