Emory Softball Drops Outing To No. 4 UT-Tyler At NCAA D-III Championships

The No. 9-ranked Emory softball team suffered its first setback at the NCAA D-III Softball Championships Friday evening, dropping a contest to UT-Tyler.  The Eagles saw their record dip to 46-7 following a five-inning, 12-1 verdict to the No. 4-ranked Patriots who upped their slate to 46-4. The Championships are being held at the Moyer Softball Complex in Salem, Virginia.

UT-Tyler sent 12 batters to the plate in a six-run third inning that was highlighted by a two-run homer by Cheyenne Thompson and a two-run double by Kristin Lopez. Emory accounted for its lone run of the day in the bottom of the frame when a two-double by junior Taylor Forte allowed senior Alyssa Pollard to score her team-high 51st run of the campaign. Pollard ended the game with a 3-for-3 effort in the batter's box, her team-high tying 17th multi-hit game of the campaign.  After a scoreless fourth, the Patriots blew the game wide open, capitalizing on four Emory errors that produced six unearned runs.

Junior pitcher Brittany File took the loss, just her fifth of the season in 41 decisions, while Kelsie Batten pocketed the win, raising her season ledger to 34-3.

Emory faces Rowan University (41-10) in an elimination game Saturday afternoon in a scheduled 1:30 pm start.
