The Emory softball team clinched the University Athletic Association title Friday afternoon following a sweep of a home doubleheader vs. New York University. The Eagles recorded their 11^th conference crown in their 20 years of existence after notching a 7-1 win in the opening contest, which was followed by a 6-3 in the finale. Emory is now 26-10 overall, 13-1 in league play, while the Violets slipped to 19-15 overall, 4-6 in the conference.

Emory pounded out a season-high tying 15 hits in the first game with five players reaching base safely on two occasions. The Eagles tacked up two runs in the bottom of the first before crossing the plate three more times in the third with junior catcher Lana Herrmann stroking a two-run single and senior center fielder Sarah Flanders hitting a sacrifice fly that plated Sam Vincent. Emory scored its final two runs in the bottom of the sixth with Cassie Baca's second hit of the contest scoring Greta Wilker, and senior Janelle Turnquest doubling in classmate Ashley Powers.  Freshman pitcher Jacqueline Spizizen picked up the win, her 16^th against five setbacks, after tossing the first six innings and allowing just one hit while striking out seven.

With the score deadlocked at 3-3, Emory pushed across two runs in the bottom of the third, with Baca singling in Jessy McLean and Sarah Katz. The following inning, the Eagles closed out the game's scoring as Jenna Wilson singled and moving to second following a NYU error.  After stealing her 20^th base of the campaign, tying the third-highest mark in school history, Wilson scored on a Flanders' ground out. Freshman pitcher Madison Schaefer raised her record to 2-1 after tossing 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.  Spizizen posted her fourth save of the season, tying the school record, throwing hitless ball over the final three frames, striking out two.  Spizizen has fanned 129 opposing batters in 2018, good for an 11^th-place tie on the school's seasonal chart.

Emory closes out the regular-season portion of its schedule on Saturday when it battles NYU in another doubleheader starting at noon.  Between games, the Eagles will conduct Senior Day Ceremonies with the program recognizing Sarah Flanders, Ashley Powers, Janelle Turnquest and Audrey Weller.
