Softball Drops Friday Doubleheader Against Huntingdon

The Emory University softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against the Huntingdon Hawks on Friday afternoon at Cooper Field.

The Eagles fought hard in the first game going into the eighth inning but fell 8-6 and followed that up with a 15-7 loss despite the comeback attempt later in the game.

Emory returns to Cooper Field on Tuesday, March 14 to take on Rhodes at 3 pm.

 

Game 1 – Huntingdon 8, Emory 6

The Hawks jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Eagles were able to answer with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Tyler Miller drove her fifth home run over the center field fence to tie the game.

The game was held scoreless until the fifth inning when the Hawks put four more runs on the board. Once again, Emory was able to answer in the bottom half and tie the game. Miller scored two runners on a single, her third and fourth RBI of the day. Freshman Ella Hoyle followed with a double to right center tying the score at six.

Huntingdon was able to score two runs in the top of the eighth and the Eagles were unable to jump on another opportunity.

 

Game 2 – Huntingdon 15, Emory 7

After taking a 4-0 lead in the second inning, the Hawks scored eight more runs in the third to take a 12-0 lead over the Eagles.

Miller was able to bring in another run in the bottom of the third followed by a bases clearing double from junior Page Nellis. Freshman Mackenzie Duford scored the Eagles' fifth run to finish out the inning. Sophomore Kayla Lang added to Emory's runs in the bottom of the fourth with a single to score Miller.

The Hawks added three more runs in the fifth inning. The Eagles tried to rally a comeback in the bottom of the inning after junior Natalie Swift brought in a run, but the Hawks were able to get out of the jam and secure the win.
