Softball Places Three on All-UAA Team; Ashley Chu Named Rookie of the Year

The Emory University softball team landed three athletes on the 2023 All-University Athletic Association teams as announced by the league office Monday morning.

Freshman Ashley Chu led the Eagles earning First Team honors and was selected as the conference's Rookie of the Year. Freshman Ella Hoyle earned her first All-UAA selection of her early career, joining Chu on the league's First Team. Senior Tyler Miller rounded out the honorees with her Second Team selection.

Chu became the 12th Eagle in program history to be named the Association's Rookie of the Year after making a name for herself in her freshman season. She finished with a team- and conference-leading .444 average along with 60 hits. She started all 38 games for the Eagles playing both second base and center field. She went on a 21-game hit streak from February 19 through April 1 including a season-high four hits against Piedmont on March 18. Although Chu never recorded an extra base hit, she proved her speed on the basepaths with 26 stolen bases good for a first place tie in the UAA and 32nd in all of Division III. Chu also finished third on the team with a .444 slugging percentage and a team-leading .490 on base percentage.

Hoyle also came into her freshman season with a bang becoming one of the best hitters on the team in her first year. She ended the season just behind Chu and fourth in the conference with a .405 batting average. She became the hardest member of the Eagles' squad to strikeout with just seven strikeouts on the season in her 121 at bats. Hoyle finished the season with 13 extra base hits, 10 of those being doubles, and finished with a .562 slugging percentage. Hoyle brought in 37 runs this season finishing in the top 65 in the nation and second in the UAA.

Miller had a stellar senior season leading the Eagles with her .648 slugging percentage and 45 RBI. She played in and started all 38 games for Emory playing all infield positions except for second base and finished with a team-leading .980 fielding percentage. Miller's 45 RBI led the UAA and tied for 18th in the nation. She also led the UAA with seven home runs and finished in the top 75 in the nation with her career-high mark. Miller finished third on the squad with her .367 average and led the team with 15 doubles and 83 total bases.
