Softball Falls to #6 Case Western Reserve in Series Finale

The Emory University softball program fell in the series finale against the No. 6 ranked Case Western Reserve Spartans on Sunday morning in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Eagles fall to 16-12 on the season after the series with CWRU and sit 2-7 in the conference. Freshman Lillian Ware highlighted the day for the Eagles throwing out four runners to set the Emory program record. 

The Spartans were able to strike first in the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run.

Ware threw out two runners in the top half of the inning to tie the program record. Freshman Georgia Pineda started the game in the circle for the Eagles and was able to hold CWRU scoreless through the second and third inning allowing just one base runner.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Spartans were able to tack on another run on a single to left field taking a 2-0 lead after four complete innings. Ware threw out her fourth runner of the day for the second out in the bottom of the fourth.

The bottom of the fifth was big for CWRU scoring five more runs on four hits while also taking advantage of two errors from the Eagles' defense. The Spartans finished the game in the bottom of the sixth inning scoring their eighth run on a single up the middle.

The Eagles will hit the road again to face the Brandeis Judges in Waltham, Massachusetts on Friday, April 12 with game one slated to begin at 3:00 PM.
