GAME FACTS - The Emory women's basketball team
packs its bags for the second consecutive weekend when it battles a
pair of UAA foes. On Friday, the Eagles meet Carnegie Mellon
at 6:00 p.m. before venturing to Case Western on Sunday for a 1:00
p.m. contest.
THE COACHES - Emory Head Coach Christy
Thomaskutty (Tulane, '96) is in her seventh season at the
helm of the program. She assumed her current duties prior to
the start of the 2003-04 campaign.
Gerri Seidl (Pittsburgh, 1998) is in her 26th year
as the head coach at Carnegie Mellon and has compiled a school and
career won-lost mark of 272-363.
In her third campaign at the helm of the Case Western Reserve
program is Jennifer Reimer. Prior to her
current post, she served as the head coach at Allegheny College for
eight years.
2009-10 RECORDS - Emory will meet Carnegie Mellon
with an overall record of 9-11, 2-7 in the UAA. Last weekend,
the Eagles fell short in road affairs to Chicago (81-52) and
No.3-ranked Washington University (61-47).
Carnegie Mellon will take on Emory with an overall record of 8-12
including a league slate of 1-8. The Tartans are coming off
66-52 and 59-50 setbacks to NYU and Brandeis last
weekend.
Heading into the weekend, Case stands 11-9 overall, 2-7 in the
league. The Spartans are looking to regroup following losses
last weekend to Brandeis (65-56) and NYU (52-50).
SERIES RECORDS - Emory claims a 26-16 edge in the
all-time series with Carnegie Mellon. The Tartans won the
initial meeting of this season, 56-47, at Emory that snapped a
five-game winning streak the Eagles had enjoyed in the series.
Case posts a 19-13 all-time record vs. Emory that includes a 64-55
triumph in Atlanta earlier this season. The Spartans have an
11-5 mark against the Eagles in games played in
Cleveland.
EMORY DUO TO SERVE AS CAPTAINS - Coach Thomaskutty
has announced that seniors Whitney Martin
(Barrington, IL) and Keenan Whitesides
(Wilmington, NC) will serve as captains of 2009-10 Emory squad.
MARTIN AMONG UAA LEADERS - Whitney
Martin continues to pace the team in a number of
statistical categories while maintaining a presence among UAA
leaders.
Martin's team-high 11.8 per-game overall scoring average is sixth
on the league's chart while her 6.4 per-game in rebounding effort
places her eighth. In addition, the Barrington, Ill., native
is 11th in field goal shooting (.426) and eighth in
blocked shots (0.9 bpg).
Martin has led the club in scoring in six games and has paced the
team in rebounding on 10 occasions. She has scored in double
figures in 14 games this year, and has picked off six or more
rebounds in 12 affairs.
NOTES - Entering this weekend, Martin holds
down the No. 12 spot on the Eagles' all-time list with 469 rebounds
... Freshman Danielle Landry paced the team in
rebounding in both games last weekend with a season-high tying nine
boards against Chicago and seven against Washington University ...
Landry has paced the club in boards in the last three and in a
total of six games this year ... Sophomore Melissa
Koike paced the team in scoring for the first time in her
career when she total a career-high 12 points against Chicago ...
Koike's point production represented her first double-figure
scoring effort of the season ... Senior Keenan
Whitesides is shooting 45.5 percent from the floor
(76-of-167), good for sixth place among UAA players ... Landry is
second on the team and 16th among UAA cagers in
rebounding (5.6 rpg) ... Emory is 8-1 this season leading at
halftime, 1-9 when trailing at the break and 0-1 when the games is
tied at halftime ... The Eagles have converted 20 or more free
throws in three contests this year and post a 3-0 mark in those
affairs ... Emory has outscored the opposition in 18 of 40 halves
... The Eagles have averaged 68.4 points while surrendering 59.3 in
their nine wins ... In its defeats, Emory has averaged 59.0
points and given up 71.5 ... Emory has nine games of 10 or more
steals this season.
