Emory Women's Basketball Announces Commitments for 2015-16 School Year

Emory head women's basketball coach Christy Thomaskutty has announced that the following student-athletes will be attending Emory in the fall and be competing for the 2015-16 Eagles' program.

Hannah Ferry (5-11, F, Atlanta, GA/Pace Academy)  -- Four-year member of the  Pace Academy basketball program where she was coached by Brian Jones  … Served as team captain her junior and senior seasons … Was her team's Offensive MVP on three occasions … Averaged 12.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest her final campaign … Landed first team all-region honors in 2012-13 and was a honorable mention pick the following season … Recipient of Pace Academy's Lance Shield Award as a senior, symbolic of excellence in athletics and leadership … Averaged 10.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as a junior … Also played soccer while at Pace Academy.

Azzairia Jackson-Sherrod (5-9, F, New Hope, MN/Benilde-St. Margaret's HS) – Four-year career at Benilde-St. Margaret's High School where she played under coach Bob Lyons … Scored over 1,000 points during her career … Tossed in 10.8 points per game her senior season en route to earning Class AAA Honorable Mention All-State recognition … Selected to compete in the Minnesota Girls Basketball All-Star Series that showcased the state's top 40 senior players … North Suburban All-Conference pick as a sophomore and junior and claimed 2015 Metro West All-Conference honors … Recipient of the program's Coach's Award her final year … Helped her team to a North Suburban Conference title during the 2013-14 season, posting a scoring effort of 13.4 points per game … National Honor Society in 2014 and 2015 … National Latin Honor Society (2013, 2014, 2015) … 2015 National Scholar/Athlete Award.

Ashley Oldshue (6-2, F/C, Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South HS) – Played four years of basketball at Glenbrook South High School where she was coached by Steve Weissenstein … Captained the 2014-15 squad … Captured Special Mention honors on the 3A/4A All-State Team as selected by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association as a senior after averaging 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest … Shot 55 percent from the floor in helping her club to a regional title … Champaign News Gazette Honorable Mention All-State pick …2014-15 Chicago Sun Times Honorable Mention All-Area …Named her team's MVP her final season … Recipient of the Senior Athletic Academic Award for basketball and track and field … National Honor Society (2013-15) … Also competed on the soccer team at Glenbrook South … Older sister, Lindsey, plays basketball at New York University (2013- present). 

Paris Wagner  (6-0, C, Traverse City, MI/Traverse City West HS) – Three-year varsity member of the Traverse City West School basketball team where she played for coach Dave Ginsberg  … First Team All-Big North Conference honoree as a senior after tossing in 10.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game in helping her squad to an overall record of 17-4, which included a first-place finish in the league (12-0) … Traverse City Record-Eagle All-Region Team her final campaign … Served as her team's captain as a senior … Played a key role in her team's drive to a Class A district crown, capturing second-team acclaim on the all-conference team her junior year after averaging 6.5 points and 8.4 boards per outing … Chosen to participate in the 2014 Reaching Higher Showcase for the top 100 non-senior players in the state of Michigan … Four-year member of the track and field program at TCWHS where she qualified for the Class A State Track and Field Championship in the discus as a junior and senior … Older sister, Loren, played basketball at the University of Rochester (2010-14).  

"We are so excited to welcome Ashley, Azzairia, Hannah, and Paris to our program," Thomaskutty said. "We will look to each of these young ladies to provide needed size and length in all phases of our game. Each of these athletes possess great versatility in their individual games and should provide quality minutes. We expect that these young ladies will complement our returning players and help us compete for an UAA Championship."

The Emory women's basketball squad will open its 2015-16 season on Nov. 17 at Oglethorpe University.
