Emory Women's Basketball Lands Three On All-UAA Team

Three members of the 2015-16 Emory University women's basketball squad have been selected to the All-University Athletic Association Team.  The all-league picks were chosen by the conference coaches.

Junior Shellie Kaniut (Vienna, VA) was tabbed as a second-team honoree, while junior Michelle Bevan (Houston, TX) and senior Khadijah Sayyid (Longmont, CO) were honorable-mention picks.

Kaniut appeared in all 25 Emory contests and concluded the season in the top spot on the team's scoring list with a 9.8 points-per-game average, good for the 19th position on the UAA ladder. She recorded 12 double-figure scoring contests, eight of which came UAA action.  Kaniut paced the team with 57 steals, good for a 12th-place tie on the program's seasonal ladder, and registered 17 outings of two or more thefts.  Her 2.3 steals-per-game average was fourth among UAA players and 12th on Emory's seasonal list. In UAA action, Kaniut came off the bench in 12 of 14 games and averaged a team-high 10.3 points, placing her 19th in the conference, while pacing the Eagles with 33 steals.  She was successful on 40 percent of her three-point opportunities, which tied for seventh in the league.

Sayyid started 23 of 25 games and finished third on the team in scoring with an 8.6 per-game average. Second on the squad with 52 steals (18th on Emory's season list), she finished out the regular season in the No. 5 spot on the UAA chart in steals average (2.1 spg).  She totaled eight double-figure scoring games and paced the team's scoring efforts on six occasions.  No. 2 on the Eagles' score sheet with 40 three-point field goals, she was successful on 37.4 percent (40 of 107) of her opportunities from beyond the arc, which was second on the team and 11th in the league.

Bevan earned her second consecutive honorable-mention nod, ending the campaign with 20 appearances, 18 as a starter, and ranking second on the club and 21st in overall scoring with a 9.5 points per game average.  Her 45.1 percent mark (78 of 173) from the field at the end of the regular season paced the club and ranked 10th on the league list. A double-figure scorer in nine games, six of which came during UAA affairs, she finished as the team's leading scorer in four games including a pair of career-high tying 21-point efforts vs. Rhodes (Jan. 4) and Carnegie Mellon (Jan. 22).  Bevan started all 14 UAA games and stood third on the team in scoring (9.6 ppg).

Emory finished 2015-16 with an overall record of 13-12, 4-10 in the UAA.
