Women's Basketball Storms Back to Defeat Rochester, 62-58, in Regular Season Finale

The Emory University women's basketball team erased a 14-point second half deficit to defeat the University of Rochester, 62-58, Saturday afternoon at the Louis Alexander Palestra in upstate New York.

The Eagles pick up a much needed win to boost their NCAA tournament resume, finishing the season 19-6 overall. Unfortunately, a win by Chicago over WashU later in the afternoon denied the Eagles a share of the University Athletic Association title as Emory finished tied for second with a 10-4 league record.

Emory, on the NCAA bubble, will now turn its attention to the NCAA selection show which will air on NCAA.com Monday afternoon at 2:30 PM as the field of 64 will be unveiled.

Junior Blair Ripley had another outstanding effort, reaching double digits for the sixth straight game as she scored a game-high 17 points. Senior Lindsey Tse had 11 points including seven in the game's final quarter, adding three rebounds, three steals and one assist. Sophomore Anna Arato joined the duo in double figures, posting 10 points in a team-leading 28 minutes.

A slow start saw the Eagles fall behind 18-10 through the first 10 minutes and an 8-0 run by the Yellowjackets in the second quarter gave the hosts their largest lead of the half at 30-18 before the teams went into the break with a 35-25 score.

A 6-2 burst to kick off the third helped Rochester build a 41-27 lead with 7:47 to go in the quarter, the largest lead of the contest. The Eagles began chipping back, ending the third on a 5-0 run to bring the score to 51-46 with 10 minutes left to go.

Emory extended its run with free throws by Ripley, Tse and senior Allison Chernow while holding Rochester scoreless another three minutes to tie the game at 51 with 6:55 left to play.

The teams traded individual four-point runs by Hannah Lindemuth and Ripley before the game remained deadlocked at 55 until a bucket by Tse gave the Eagles their first lead of the game at 2:49 remaining. Rochester went 1-for-2 at the line at the two minute mark before another made jumper by Tse pushed the Emory lead to three with 1:46 to go.

Rochester saw two more made free throws by Gillian Mair to cut the deficit to one under a minute to play but a jumper from freshman Mariane Auza with 34 seconds left sealed the win for the Eagles.

For the final quarter, Emory outscored Rochester by a 16-7 margin.
