Women's Basketball Assistant Coach Sammi Goldsmith Steps Down

Emory women's basketball assistant coach Sammi Goldsmith has resigned from her position.  Goldsmith has assumed the duties as head varsity girls' basketball coach at the Allen Academy in Bryan, Texas.

During her two seasons on the Eagles' bench, Goldsmith helped the program to a combined won-lost record of 38-13.  Emory compiled back-to-back 10-4 marks in University Athletic Association play which tied it for second place in the loop in 2019 and 2020.  The 2018-19 squad earned the program's fourth-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament, finishing that campaign with an overall mark of 19-7.

Goldsmith helped mentor four different players to six All-UAA awards including Ashley Oldshue, who garnered 2018-19 Honorable Mention All-American accolades. In addition, she helped craft defensive schemes that saw the Eagles pace the UAA in scoring defense in each of her two years while placing among the top two in field goal percentage defense.

"In her two seasons Coach Goldsmith made a tremendous impact on our program," said Head Coach Misha Jackson.  "She will greatly be missed but her presence will continue to be felt by our team.  On behalf of Emory Women's Basketball, we thank her and wish her all the best in her next journey."

Goldsmith came to Emory after a two-year run as a graduate assistant coach at Virginia Tech.  The Hokies won a total of 43 games during that stretch, with the 2017-18 squad recording the program's longest run ever in the postseason when it registered a runner-up finish in the WNIT.

"I am extremely grateful to Misha Jackson for hiring me as assistant coach in the spring of 2018," stated Goldsmith.  "During my time at Emory, I have learned so much about building a program and implementing a championship culture. Misha entrusted me with a multitude of roles from recruiting to scouting to travel, which helped me grow in all aspects of coaching.  Working with Misha and (assistant coach) Chuck Melito has prepared me for this new adventure. I cannot wait to bring all that I have learned at Emory into my head coaching position.

"I consider myself extremely fortunate to have coached the group of young women at Emory over the past two years. Not only were they extremely successful on the court, but they were also some of the brightest and most hard-working people I have ever known. It was truly my honor to coach them."

In addition to her coaching responsibilities at Allen Academy, Goldsmith will also serve as a physical education instructor.
