Fast Start Leads Women's Basketball Past Sul Ross State, 90-64

The Emory University women's basketball team got off to a 16-0 start and never looked back as the Eagles defeated Sul Ross State, 90-64, on day one of the Colorado College Classic in Colorado Springs.

The Eagles saw junior Izzy Munson drain a corner three within the opening moments Friday night and the team was then off to the races. Munson finished with 15 points in her return to her home state and was one of four Eagles to reach double figures in the win. Senior Claire Brock reached the 20-point mark for the second straight contest, finishing with a game-high 20 points.

Sophomore facilitator Daniella Aronsky was at it again, turning in her second consecutive 12 assist outing as she stuffed the stat sheet with nine points and seven rebounds. Junior Paige Gross shined in her first collegiate start, grabbing a game and career-high 13 rebounds while chipping in with eight points. Senior Mariane Auza and freshman Lilah Gery rounded out the top Emory scorers with 10 points each off the bench.

The first half was all in favor of the Eagles as they did not allow the first points to the Lobos until the 5:41 mark of the opening quarter as Emory went into the second with a 26-6 edge.

The second quarter was more of the same from the Eagles, building their lead to as many as 31 points before settling on the 52-24 halftime margin.

Sul Ross State made it a competitive affair after the break, outscoring the Eagles 20-19 in both the third and fourth quarters but never got within 19 points for the remainder of the contest.

Emory looks to close out the weekend Saturday afternoon as they take on the host Colorado College Tigers at 4:00 PM EST.
