The No. 9 ranked Emory University women's basketball team fell to the No. 1 ranked NYU Violets on Sunday afternoon by a score of 74-41.

The Eagles fall to 15-3 on the season and now sit 5-2 in the UAA after the loss. Sophomore Katherine Martini had an impressive day scoring 13 points for the Eagles, her second best this season and of her career. Freshman Alexandra Loucopoulos followed Martini with nine points shooting 2-4 in free throws while fellow freshman Emma Starr led the team from beyond the arc going 2-3.

The Violets started quick in the first quarter leading 7-0 before a layup from graduate student Claire Brock scored the first points for Emory with 7:09 on the clock. NYU then held a 14-2 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the quarter before a late layup from Brock gave the Eagles two more points and the Violets took a 23-4 lead into the second quarter.

Emory was able to score early in the second quarter with Martini scoring her first points of the game but the Violets kept up with the Eagles and held a 32-9 lead with 5:44 remaining in the second quarter. Senior Izzy Munson hit a late three pointer with 40 seconds on the clock but a layup from NYU at the buzzer helped them to a 41-14 lead at the half.

NYU was held to just 16 points in the third quarter but the Eagles were only able to respond with nine points of their own in the quarter. After early points from both teams, the game was scoreless until a three pointer from the Violets' offense at the 6:43 mark. Loucopoulos entered the game with a few points of her own cutting NYU's lead to 49-21 with just over five minutes in the quarter. The Violets went on a 9-2 run to finish the quarter holding a 57-23 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Eagles went on a scoring run in the fourth quarter outscoring NYU 18-17. Martini started the quarter with a few points of her own before Brock followed with a few more. Just under the five minute mark, Starr made back to back threes cutting the Violet's lead to 67-35 before jumping to a 71-37 lead with just three minutes in the game. The Eagles finished the game with a 4-3 run, but the effort wasn't enough and the Violets took the game 74-41.

The Eagles will return to Atlanta on Friday, February 2 to face Brandeis at 5:30 PM before hosting the Violets on Sunday, February 4 at 2:00 PM.
