2019-20 Emory Women's Golf Recap

After beginning its initial season as an intercollegiate sport with four tournaments in the fall, the women’s golf team competed in a pair of events during the spring.

Emory's first-ever appearance in a tournament as a varsity sport took place Sept. 14-15, 2019, when the Eagles posted an eighth-place finish out of 13 teams at the NCAA D-III Preview in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Emory served as the host in its opening tournament for both the season and the program at the 5,846-yard, par-72 Palmer Course at the PGA National Resort.  The PGA National Resort was to have served as the site for the 2020 NCAA D-III Championships, however the COVID 19 pandemic put an end to those plans.

Under the watchful eye of Head Coach Katie Futcher, the Eagles took part in the Linda Lowery Invitational in Austin, Texas, and the Savannah Invitational in the spring. Freshman Ksheera Jalakam highlighted the Emory effort in those two tournaments with a second-place finish on the leader board at the Lowery Invitational. Emory was set to embark in its first-ever UAA Championship in Palm Coast, FL, but saw that event canceled due to the coronavirus.

Jalakam ended the year as the team’s top scoring leader, playing in all six of the team’s tournaments and averaging 80.1 strokes over 12 rounds. She ranked as the Eagles’ No. 1 performer on five occasions and posted five of the team’s top individual rounds
