Emory Women's Golf Team Opens Season At Jekyll Island Collegiate

Live Scoring

The Emory University women's golf team makes its spring debut this Friday through Sunday (Mar. 19-21) when it competes at the Jekyll Island Collegiate.  The 54-hole tournament will be played on the 5,801-yard, par-72 Indian Mound Course at Jekyll Island, Georgia.  The Eagles will be playing their first competition since Mar. 9-10, 2020, when they teed it up at the Savannah Invitational.

"Im thrilled for our student-athletes and very appreciative of the work that our athletic director, Keiko Price, put in to get the ball rolling on helping us compete again," stated Emory Head Coach Katie Futcher.  As athletes, we practice so that we can compete, so this is certainly a great opportunity.  It has been over a year since we've played and I know that we are all eager to get back at it again."

This year's field at the Women's Collegiate is a formidable with six teams ranked in the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) D-III Top 25 Poll.  Headlining the field is No. 2 Methodist while Carnegie Mellon (#4), Rhodes (#7) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (#10) are other squads slotted among the nation's top 10.

Making up the Emory contingent this weekend are sophomores Ksheera Jalakam (Frisco, TX) and Lillian Knetter (Madison, WI) along with fresmen Rebecca Schiffman (Chevy Chase, MD), Jessica Lan (Bloomfield Hills, MI) and Mariana Ching (Lima, Peru).  Jalakam played in all six of the team's competitions last year, averaging a squad-best 80.1 strokes per round while Knetter played in five tournaments.

"We've been practicing since early February and that has gone well," Futcher said.  The stability that Ksheera and Lillian bring as returners is important, and I'm also looking forward to seeing the newcomers play and see what they can bring to the team."
