The No. 10-ranked Emory women's golf team turned in a record-setting day during the opening round of the MCC Intercollegiate. The 36-hole tourney is being played at the 5,821-yard, par-72 Montgomery Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama.
The Eagles find themselves in third place out of 10 teams after registering a program-record score of 302. No. 2 Methodist tops the field at six-over par 294 while No. 3 Centre holds down second place after compiling a nine-over 297. No. 4 Carnegie Mellon and No. 14 Rhodes are deadlocked for fourth place at 312.
Freshman Rebecca Schiffman led a balanced Emory effort and shot a school-record 74, good for a tie for fifth place out of 50 players. Schiffman was a model of consistency, with a first-round best tying 14 pars while logging one birdie and three bogeys. Classmate Mariana Chong finds herself tied for seventh on the leader board after checking in with a 75. Freshman Jessica Lan and sophomore Ksheera Jalakam closed out the team's scoring efforts at 76 and 77, respectively. Sophomore Shriya Agarwal shot a 78.
Ingrid Steingrimsen shot the best individual score of the day with a two-under par 70.
The final round of the MCC Intercollegiate will be held on Monday.
