Women's Golf Captures First-Ever UAA Championship

The No. 2 ranked Emory University women's golf team won its first-ever UAA Championship on Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 decision over the No.1 ranked Carnegie Mellon Tartans. The championship match was played on the par-72 Conservatory Course at the Hammock Beach Resort in Palm Coast, FL.

The Eagles finished play from their weather-delayed first round against NYU first thing this morning winning by a score of 3-1. Leading 1-0 as a result of a 7 & 6 victory by freshman Heejo Hyun on Saturday, the Eagles finished out the first round with wins from freshman Sharon Mun (2 UP) and freshman Ellen Dong (1 UP). With the win over NYU, the Eagles set themselves up for their first-ever championship match, taking on the top-seeded Tartans, who defeated WashU on Saturday to earn their spot in the finals.

Emory and Carnegie Mellon battled in the championship match with the Eagles pulling out the narrow victory. The Eagles claimed wins at the top three lines with Dong, sophomore Irene Wang and Mun coming through in the championship match.

Following the conclusion of the two-day, 36-hole championship Mun, Dong and Wang were tabbed to the six-golfer All-Tournament team with Dong claiming tournament MVP honors.

The Eagles return to action next weekend for the three-day Jekyll Island Collegiate at the Jekyll Island Golf Club in Jekyll Island, GA with the first round set to get underway Friday morning.
