Women's Golf in Second After Day One of Microjuvenate Panthers Classic

The Emory University women's golf team is in second place after one round of play at the Microjuvenate Panthers Classic in Bessemer, AL. The two day, 36-hole tournament is being played at 5,603-yard, par-72 Bent Brook Golf Course.

The No. 1 ranked Eagles sit in second place after posting a team-score of 299 through one round of play. Emory led the field with the most pars (55) and the best scores on par-5 holes (-5). The Eagles are in second in the field of 12 teams, five of whom are ranked in the top 25 according to the latest WGCA Top 25 Poll. Sitting atop the leaderboard after the first round is No. 4 ranked Methodist who holds a seven-stroke lead on the Eagles. No. 18 ranked Rhodes rounds out the top three with a one round score of 301.

Freshman Ellen Dong is tied for first place with a four-under par 68 through 18 holes. Dong had an impressive start to the back-nine carding an Eagle on both the 10th and 11th holes. Freshman Sharon Mun posted a score of 76 which sees her tied for tenth. Sophomore Irene Wang had a rock-solid outing for the Eagles registering a 77 which places her in a tie for 18th. Freshman Heejo Hyun finished with the second most pars of any golfer to record a score of 78 good for a 24th place tie. Rounding out scoring for the Eagles was sophomore Mariana Chong who carded a 79 to tie her in 29th through the first round.

The Eagles will close out the Microjuvenate Panthers Classic on Tuesday morning with hopes of moving up into pole position to close the tournament.
