The No. 4 ranked Emory University women's golf team returned to the course on Friday, competing against some of the best teams in the country at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia. The two-day, three-round tournament is being played on the Par 72, 6,351 yards course on the campus of the University of Georgia.

The Eagles, the lone Division III program in the field of 17, are pitted up against Division I and II foes including top-25 DI teams in #10 Auburn, #17 Florida, #22 Virginia and #25 SMU. Also in the field are host UGA, Alabama, Augusta (Division II), Charleston, Georgia Southern, Illinois, Kansas State, Michigan, Missouri, N.C. State and San Diego State.

Friday's competition featured 36 holes starting with a shotgun in the morning. Emory fired a team score of 320 in the first round and 330 in the second round to finish the first day of action with a 74-over 650.

Freshman Carys Code was the Eagles top performer on day one as she entered the clubhouse with a two-round score of 159 (77-82). Code was one of two Eagles to post rounds under 80 on the tough UGA course, joining junior Sharon Mun who also carded a 77 on the first 18 holes of the day. Mun finished Friday two shots back of Code with a 161 (77-84).

Freshman Esther Jung recorded scores of 83 and 82 in her two rounds while junior Ellen Dong registered 85 and 82 totals. Senior Irene Wang, making her first appearance of the spring, rounded out the Eagles in action, firing an 83 in the first round before carding an 85 in the second round of 18.

Emory concluded the first afternoon with 77 pars and 11 birdies with Jung leading the team with 18 pars and Code and Mun each coming through with three birdies.
