Women's Golf Stands Second After First Round of Stith Invitational

The No. 3 ranked Emory University women's golf team returned to the course on Monday, competing in the first round of the Max & Susan Stith Invitational in Glen Allen, Virginia. The two-round, two-day tournament is being played on the Par 72, 5,602 yards course at The Dominion Club.

After competing in the heavily stacked Division I field in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the end of March, the Eagles were back competing against their Division III counterparts in Virginia. Through one round, Emory stands in second place in the 15-team field after shooting a team score of 301 (+13). Fellow UAA member, Carnegie Mellon, leads the pack after posting a two-over 290 on Monday. Washington & Lee rounds out the top three, entering Tuesday one stroke behind the Eagles at 302.

Sophomore Katie Park headlined all golfers in action on Monday as she fired a tournament-best 71 to enter the clubhouse one-under on the afternoon. Park was one of five golfers in the competition to rack up four birdies on the day and was second on the team with 11 pars.

Junior Sharon Mun was the Eagles' second-best performer in the opening round as she totaled 76 across her first round and is tied for 14th.

Joining Park and Mun in the top-20 on the individual leaderboard were freshman Carys Code and sophomore Heejo Hyun. After highlighting the Eagles in Athens, Code turned in a team-best 13 pars on Monday, one shy of the tournament lead, as she posted a 77 to tie for 19th. Making her spring debut in Virginia, Hyun ended the first round matched with Code with a 77 thanks to two birdies and nine pars, including six on the front nine.

Sophomore Cindy Wang rounded out the Eagles at the tournament, carding a 78 in the first round and ranks tied for 24th entering Tuesday.

The Stith Invitational concludes on Tuesday with golfers set to tee off in the morning for the final round.
