Eagles Finish as Runners-Up at The Stith; Katie Park Ties Emory Record to Claim Individual Crown

The No. 3 ranked Emory University women's golf team finished as the team runner-up as the Max and Susan Stith Invitational concluded Tuesday afternoon in Glen Allen, Virginia.

The Eagles ended the two-day tournament in impressive fashion, posting the best second round score in the field with a nine-over 297 to end the two rounds at 598. Emory finished nine strokes back of Carnegie Mellon which won the competition with a two-day tally of 589. The next closest team was Washington & Lee which finished at 619.

Sophomore Katie Park shined on Tuesday to help the Eagles finish at +9 for the day. For just the third time this season and 11th time in program history, an Emory Eagle broke 70 in a round as Park carded a 69 in her second round. After shooting a 71 on Monday, Park's two-round score of 140 ties the program record for best two-round tournament, matching Heejo Hyun's total from the MCC Intercollegiate in September. Park was the only golfer in the Stith Invitational to shoot under par, coming in at four-under and was six strokes better than the next closest golfer.

Sophomore Cindy Wang also impressed on Tuesday as she was four shots better than her Monday round to crack the top-ten in the individual standings. With her 74 in the second round, Wang moved up sixteen spots and ended the tournament in a tie for eighth place. Park and Wang were just two of three golfers to collect seven or more birdies at the Invitational with Park totaling nine and Wang racking up seven.

Hyun improved her final position as well on Tuesday, shaving one shot off her first round to finish tied for 13th with a score of 153 (77-76). Junior Sharon Mun dropped to a tie for 16th following a 78 in the second round to give her 154 (76-78) for the two days. Freshman Carys Code rounded out the Eagles in Virginia as she tied for 21st with a two-day score of 156 (77-79).

Emory topped the field with 23 total birdies and was tied for second with 108 pars across the 36 holes.

The Eagles will take part in one more tournament, hosting the Deb Jackson Invitational from April 15-16 in Florence, Alabama, before the NCAA Championships in May.
