Women’s Golf in First after Opening Round of NCAA Tournament

The Emory University women's golf program holds a three-stroke lead after the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The Eagles shot 295 as a team and hold a three-stroke lead over fellow UAA opponent Carnegie Mellon. After the first round of competition, junior Ellen Dong and sophomore Katie Park are in a tie for fourth place with their first round scores.

Dong had one of the best rounds of her junior campaign shooting her second lowest round this season at 72. She posted six birdies and six pars including four birdies on the front nine.

Also shooting a 72 on the day was Park, her third best round this season while recording three birdies on the front nine and 12 total pars tying Dong on the individual leaderboard.

Following close behind was freshman Carys Code competing in her first NCAA Tournament with the Eagles. Her 74 in the first round is her third best round this season and she reached the mark thanks to two birdies and 13 pars placing her in a tie for 13th on the leaderboard.

Rounding out the competitors for the Eagles on Tuesday were freshman Esther Jung who carded a five-over 77 and junior Sharon Mun who posted a first-round score of 80 to place in a tie for 35th and 68th respectively.

The NCAA Championships will continue on Wednesday with the first tee time coming at 12:40 PM.
