Women’s Golf Maintains Top Spot Despite Weather/Darkness Delays

The Emory University women's golf program saw its fair share of delays on Wednesday during the second round of the NCAA Championships in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

The Eagles were scheduled to tee off at 12:40 PM before thunderstorms moved into the area delaying the start to 4:20 PM. The team was able to get through 12 holes before play was suspended due to diminishing light. Emory currently holds a three stroke lead over the Carnegie Mellon Tartans with both teams shooting nine-over on the day.

Junior Ellen Dong has been leading the way for the Eagles as she currently holds second place individually for her efforts. Before play was suspended, she shot one-over with a birdie and six pars on the back nine ending on hole one.

Following behind was freshman Carys Code who moved her way into a tie for 14th place with her three-over performance to start round two. She shot nine pars on the day and recorded three straight on the front nine before the day was over.

Fellow freshman Esther Jung also had an impressive day before play was suspended moving up to a tie for 14th with her two-over score on Wednesday. Jung posted six pars and two birdies on the day finishing hole three before darkness fell.

Rounding out the competitors for the Eagles was junior Sharon Mun who finished the day three-over par posting six pars through 11 holes of competition and sophomore Katie Park posting a score of six-over through 11.

The rest of round two will be played tomorrow morning with round three to follow.
