Emily Rubin, a junior defender on the Emory University women's
soccer team, was named the Defensive Athlete of the Week for the
University Athletic Association (UAA), based on her performance
last week.
Rubin played all 180 minutes for an Emory defense that allowed just
six shots during two games. Rubin helped Emory to a 3-0
shutout win over Guilford College on Saturday, allowing the Quakers
to take just one shot during the contest. In addition, the
defender added a goal with a header off a corner kick, her
team-best third of the season. During Emory's 2-1 overtime
win over Birmingham Southern College, Rubin and the Emory defense
held the Panthers to just five shots, only two of which were on
goal. The sophomore has led an Emory defense that has
recorded three shutouts this season and a goals against average of
1.03.
Rubin's play this season has helped the Eagles remain undefeated
against Division III opponents, and win three straight games.
The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday night, hosting
Spelman College at 7:00 PM.
