Emory University juniors Emily Rubin and
Kirsten Baecher were honored by the College Sports
Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their accomplishments
in the classroom and on the field, as the pair was named to the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team.
Rubin was named a defender on the Academic all-District first team,
while Baecher was named a goalkeeper to the second team.
Rubin, a team co-captain, has anchored the Emory backline
throughout the season, helping the squad record a 1.29 team goals
against average, while holding opponents to 11.3 shots per game,
and 5.7 shots on goal per game. In addition, she has scored a
career-high three goals during the campaign. Rubin has
recorded a 3.91 cumulative grade point average as a biology and
business major.
By virtue of earning a spot on the Academic All-District first
team, Rubin will be placed on the ballot for the ESPN the
Magazine Academic All-America team.
Baecher has recorded a 1.48 goals against average and a 3-4-5
record this season. The junior has made 65 saves in 12 starts
this season. Baecher, a biology major, has a 3.66 cumulative
grade point average, including a 3.93 GPA in the spring 2009
semester.
Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Emory
nominees represent the "college division" in District 3 which is
composed of NCAA Division II and III, and NAIA schools in the
states of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and
Virginia.
