The Emory University women's soccer team broke a streak of
20-consecutive home-opening victories on Saturday night, as the
22nd-ranked Eagles tied the Maryville College Scots 1-1
at the Woodruff P.E. Center.
Emory's lone goal came in the 22nd minute of play, as a
corner kick off the foot of senior Talia Dweck
came across the goal, where it found junior Emily
Rubin, who converted a header for the goal. The
score was the first in Rubin's Emory career [watch the
goal].
The score would remain 1-0 Emory until the 62nd minute,
when Maryville's Jessica Petersen scored the equalizer unassisted
on a breakaway.
Neither team would score through the rest of regulation or the two
10-minute overtime periods, forcing a 1-1 draw.
Dweck managed four shots for Emory in the contest, while freshman
Hailey Morris and sophomore Liz
Harlan each took three shots. Junior goalkeeper
Kirsten Baecher played all 110 minutes of the
contest, making four saves.
The tie brings both Emory's and Maryville's records to 0-1-1 on the
campaign.
Emory will return to action tomorrow at 4:00 PM, as the Eagles will
host Illinois Wesleyan University.
Game Notes
This marks just the second time in the program's history that
the Eagles have not managed a win in either of their first two
games... Emory also started the 1988 season with an 0-1-1 record...
The Eagles outshot the Scots 16 to six, including a 12 to five
advantage in shots on goal... Emory also held a 5-2 advantage in
corner kicks.
