Emory University head coach Sue Patberg has
announced that the following eight student athletes will be
enrolling at Emory in the fall of 2011 and will be competing for
the Eagles’ women’s soccer program.
“We are extremely excited about this incoming freshman
class,” said Patberg. “Not only do they fill our
positional needs, they are also a versatile group and bring many
individual weapons. Their combination of talent and character
make us optimistic that they will make early contributions.
Collectively, they will strengthen our program and continue the
winning tradition of Emory soccer.”
Charlotte Butker (Center Back/Forward –
Atlanta, GA/The Westminster Schools – Atlanta Spurs FC)
– Has served as her team’s captain during the 2011
season, scoring 24 goals so far… Was named the Northside
Area Player of the Year in 2010, earning a spot on the all-Area
first team… Won the Golden Boot Award in 2010 agyer leader
the Westminster team with 21 goals during the season…
Selected for the 2011 Georgia High School Soccer All-Star
Team… A member of the National Honor Society and National
Spanish Honor Society, after being named to her high school’s
honor roll all eight semesters… The recipient of the Vincent
J. Dooley Award, presented to senior athletes in Georgia for
distinguished individual character, outstanding teamwork and
citizenship… Also presented with Westminster’s Clare
Haverty Ridley Memorial Award for outstanding scholarship,
leadership and moral character.
Meredith Doherty (Midfielder – McLean, VA/Langley
H.S. – FC Virginia Explosion) – Helped lead her club
team to the State Cup Finals, and to a win at the Disney Soccer
Showcase… Was named her high school team’s Most
Valuable Player during her junior year… Earned second team
all-Liberty District honors in 2009… Was the captain of both
her junior varsity and varsity squads… Played with the
Virginia State Olympic Developmental Program from 2006-08…
Named a scholar athlete… Was also a basketball player, and
served as the captain of her high school’s freshman
basketball team… Academically, was a member of the Math,
French and National Honor Societies, and earned a certificate of
excellence in Russian from the National High School Slavic Honors
Society… Won a certificate of merit from the 2010 Regional
Scholastic Art Awards… An AP Scholar with Honor.
Emily Feldman (Forward - Highland Park, IL/Highland Park
H.S. – Chicago Magic) – A four-year varsity player for
Higland Park High School… Holds the school career and
single-season records for both points and goals… Named to
the all-sectional and all-conference teams… Also a two-year
all-conference selection for basketball… Earned Dean’s
List honors all eight semesters in high school… Was also
named an Illinois State Scholar and to the Highland Park Honor
Society.
Jennifer Grant (Center Midfielder/Defender - Coral
Springs, FL/Cardinal Gibbons H.S. –Team Boca) –
Was named to the Sun-Sentinel all-county first team…
Recognized as her team’s defensive Most Valuable Player and a
two-year team captain… Helped her high school squad to the
2009 State Finals… A four-year captain for her club team,
which she helped lead to the 2010 Florida State Championship and
the semifinals of the 2010 Disney Showcase… Academically,
was a National Honor Society member and secretary… Ranked
fifth in her high school class… US Lacrosse Academic
All-American… Mu Alpha Theta Member.
Jess Hirst (Outside Midfielder/Forward –
Wayne, PA/Conestoga H.S. – Vincent United Blizzards) –
Helped her high school team to state championships in 2007-08 and
2008-09, along with a district championship in 2007-08, and a
Central League championship in 2007-08… Member of the
Olympic Developmental Program for the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth
Soccer Association in 2006-07 and 2008-09… Academically, was
a member of the National Honor Society.
Sarah Kuehl (Defender – Zionsville,
IN/Zionsville Community H.S. – Carmel United) – Named
to the all-State Second Team in 2009 and 2010… Indianapolis
Star All-North First Team in 2009 and 2010… Named her high
school team’s Most Valuable Player in 2010, and the Defensive
Player of the Year in 2009… An Eagle Scholar all four
years on the team… Academic all-State in 2009 and
2010… NSCAA Scholar All-American in 2010… Member of
the National Honor Society.
Kaelyn Lucas (Outside Midfielder/Outside Back – Rye,
NY/Rye H.S. – White Plains Elite) – Played in London,
England with Hampstead F.C. in 2007, winning the Division
Championship… Earned all-league honors in high school all
three seasons… Helped her high school to the State
Championship in 2008 and a Regional Championship in 2009…
Was a member of the State finalist team in 2010, and helped the
squad to the top ranking in the Nation, according to ESPN…
Academically, was a member of the National Honor Society and is an
AP Scholar with Honors.
Claudia Rowe (Midfielder/Defender - Watchung, NJ/Watchung
Hills Regional H.S. – Match Fit Chelsea) – Helped lead
her team to the 2010 County and Regional Championships…
Earned AP Merit Scholar Recognition… Is a member of the
Literature, Spanish and Italian National Honor Societies.
Emory, which finished the 2010 season ranked fifth in the Nation
with a 16-2-4 overall record, will open its 2011 season on
September 3rd at Chapman University.
