Emory University freshman Kelly Costopoulos was
named the University Athletic Association’s (UAA) Offensive
Player of the Week for women’s soccer, after scoring two
goals and assisting on another during three games last week.
Costopoulos scored both of the goals during Emory’s 2-0 win
over 23rd-ranked Brandeis University on Sunday
afternoon. On Friday, the midfielder picked up her first
collegiate helper, assisting on the game-winning goal
during the Eagles’ 2-0 win over New York
University.
During her inaugural campaign, Costopoulos has scored three goals
and assisted on another for seven points, the sixth-best total on
the team, and the second-most among Emory freshmen. She becomes the
fourth Eagle to be honored as the UAA Athlete of the Week for
women’s soccer this season, joining Kaele
Leonard (September 7th), Lee
Bachouros (September 20th) and Clare
Mullins (September 27th), who all won the award
for their defensive efforts.
Costopoulos’ play has helped the eighth-ranked Eagles to an
11-1-2 record, including a 2-1-1 mark in UAA games. Emory
will return to action on Saturday, hosting Berry College at 6:00
PM.
