Emory University freshman defender Lauren
Gorodetsky was named the Defensive Player of the Week for
the University Athletic Association (UAA), after helping the
sixth-ranked Eagles to a 2-0 victory over Berry College on
Saturday.
Gorodetsky played the entirety of the Eagles victory, helping to
hold the Lady Vikings to just three shots on goal, including just
one in the second half. The shutout was the team’s
eighth of the season, lowering the squad’s goals-against
average to 0.45. Gorodetsky also assisted on Emory’s
second goal of the game, her first collegiate helper. She has
scored two goals as well for a total of five points this
season.
Gorodetsky becomes the fifth-different Eagle to earn the honor this
season, joining Kaele Leonard, Lee
Bachouros, Clare Mullins and
Kelly Costopoulos. All of the five, except
for Costopoulos, earned the honor for their defensive efforts.
Gorodetsky’s performance has helped Emory to a 12-1-2 record
in 2010. The Eagles will wrap up their home season this
weekend, hosting Rochester on Friday and Case Western Reserve on
Sunday.
