Emory University's Lauren Gorodetsky became the first NCAA Division III freshman to be named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Performance Subaru All-American in four years, as the defender earned a place on the second team.

Gorodetsky was the first freshman all-American since the 2006 season, when Hardin-Simmons University goalkeeper Christi Carr was named to the first team as a first-year player.  She is the sixth freshman overall and the first freshman defender to earn all-America honors since the 2002 season.

Gorodetsky becomes the 11^th all-American in the history of the Emory women's soccer program, and the fifth defender.  She is just the second freshman honoree in the school's history, joining forward Rebecca Krohn, who was named to the third team in 1991.  She is the eighth Emory player to be named to either the first or second team.

Gorodetsky was the center defender for an Emory backfield that recorded a 0.557 goals-against average in 2010, the 23^rd-lowest mark among NCAA Division III teams.  The Eagles recorded 10 shutouts during the season, while limiting opponents to just 4.1 shots on goal per game, including 11 games of three shots on goal or less.  Included in that group of contests were Emory's first two games of the NCAA Tournament, where Gorodetsky and the Eagles backline held Maryville College and Lynchburg College scoreless on four shots, just two on goal, on back-to-back days.  Gorodetsky started all 21 games she played in during the season, while setting a school record with 1,914 minutes played during the year. 

She also contributed on the offensive end of the field, scoring a pair of goals and assisting on three others.  One of her goals came during her first collegiate game, helping the Eagles defeat Lee University, the eventual NAIA champions, 2-1 in overtime.  Gorodetsky's other goal was during the regular season against Maryville College (Tenn.), an NCAA Tournament team, helping Emory to a 3-1 victory.  Two of her assisst came in back-to-back games against University Athletic Association (UAA) opponents Case Western Reserve University and Carnegie Mellon University, both Emory victories. 

Earlier in the year, Gorodetsky was named to the all-South Atlantic Region and all-UAA first teams.  She was twice named the UAA's Defensive Player of the Week during the 2010 campaign, once on October 25^th, and again on November 15^th.  She was one of just three UAA players selected to any of the three all-America teams.

Gorodetsky's performance during the season helped the Eagles reach the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships, before losing to Hardin-Simmons University, the eventual National Champions.  Emory finished the year with an overall record of 16-2-4, and a ranking of fifth in Division III, the highest final ranking in the program's 25-year history.
