Playing in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals for the first time, the seventh-ranked Emory University Eagles will look to hand host school and second-ranked Hardin-Simmons University its first loss of the season on Saturday at 2:00 PM EST in Abilene, TX.

Emory University Eagles
The Eagles are currently 16-1-4 this season, including a record of 2-0-2 in matches on neutral sites, and 5-0-1 in road games.  Emory finished the regular season ranked seventh in the NSCAA poll, and eighth in the D3Soccer.com poll.  Emory is paced offensively by freshman Kelly Costopoulos (seven goals and one assist), senior Lauren Smith (seven goals), and senior Melanie Levy (five goals and four assists).  Defensively, Emory’s backline has yet to allow more than eight shots on goal during a game this season, and has limited its opponents to three shots on goal or less in 11 of its 21 games this year.  Eagles’ sophomore goalkeepers Kaele Leonard and Erica Stein have split time the entire season, combining for a 0.49 goals-against average and 10 shutouts.  Emory is led by head coach Sue Patberg, who is 80-20-16 during her six seasons with Emory.

Hardin-Simmons University Cowgirls
Hardin-Simmons will enter play on Saturday with a perfect 22-0-0 record this season, including a 13-0-0 record at home.  The Cowgirls are led offensively by senior forward Amy Kuykendall, who is second in Division III in total goals, and her sister Katie Kuykendall, who is the Division III leader in assists.  Junior goalkeeper Rebecca Roth is fourth in Division III with a 0.21 goals against average this season for Hardin-Simmons.  The Cowgirls are led by head coach Marcus Wood, who is 196-24-18 during his 11 seasons with the team.

Matchup History                                                                       
The two teams last met on November 10, 2007 at the Woodruff P.E. Center, resulting in a 1-0 Emory win during the second round of the NCAA Tournament.  In that game, Emory’s Meghan McMahon (then a freshman) scored the only goal of the contest.  Emory is 3-0-0 all time against Hardin-Simmons, but have never played the Cowgirls in Abilene.
