On September 5th of this season, Emory defeated Lynchburg 2-1 in overtime, on a neutral field in Salem, VA.  Senior Melanie Levy scored the ‘golden goal’ for Emory, while senior Lauren Smith notched a score as well in the contest.  Goalkeeper Kaele Leonard played over 51 minutes of scoreless soccer for the Eagles, making two saves.

Emory and Lynchburg have become familiar foes over the past few seasons.  Since the 2004 season, the teams have played six times, including three meetings in the NCAA Tournament.  Emory is 4-5-3 all time against Lynchburg, but have not faced the Hornets at the Woodruff P.E. Center since the 2000 campaign.  This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in the second round or later in the NCAA Tournament, all previous of which were held in Lynchburg, VA and won by the Hornets.
