Behind a second-half goal from senior Melanie Levy, the
Emory University women's soccer team improved to 2-0-0 on the
season with a 1-0 win over Roanoke College.
After a scoreless first half, Levy struck for the contest's only
goal in the 63rd minute, scoring off a corner kick from
sophomore Lee
Bachouros. It was the first goal of the season
for Emory's senior co-captain, and the first assist for
Bachouros.
For the second-straight game, Kaele Leonard
entered in the second half, and recorded one save in 45 minutes of
shutout soccer to earn her second victory this season.
Sophomore Erica
Stein started and played the entire first half in
goal, making three saves and lowering her season goals against
average to 0.83.
Emory outshot Roanoke 18-7 in the game, including a 9-4 advantage
in shots on goal. The Eagles also took seven corner kicks,
compared to just one for Roanoke.
Emory has now started its season 2-0-0 for the third time in the
last four seasons, and for the 13th time overall.
Of all the previous years the Eagles have won their first two games
of a campaign, Emory has qualified for the NCAA Tournament nine
times.
Roanoke dropped to 0-1-1 on the season with the loss.
Emory will wrap up action at the Roanoke Invitational on Sunday, as
the Eagles will face fourth-ranked Lynchburg College at noon.
