#5 Eagles Dominant in 4-0 Season-Opening Win at Chapman

The fifth-ranked Emory University women's soccer team scored three goals in the first half, including the eventual game winner from senior Lidija Barauskas, en route to a dominant 4-0 win over Chapman University in its first game of the 2011 season in Orange, CA on Saturday.

Emory made the most of its set pieces during the game, including the first goal of the contest, scored off a corner kick.  Emory junior Lee Bachouros took the corner for the Eagles, placing it perfectly to Barauskas, who was able to convert the goal, the second of her career.

The Eagles scored again just a few minutes later, on another play set up by a Bachouros corner kick.  After Bachouros' corner was initially cleared, the ball found the feet of freshman Sarah McClenahan, who was able to sneak it in between the near post and the Chapman keeper, extending the lead to 2-0.

Freshman Emily Feldman extended the lead to 3-0 later in the first half, scoring her first collegiate goal on a well-placed shot past the goalkeeper.

After the majority of the second half went by without either team scoring, the Eagles struck in the final minute of play, after a short corner kick was played into the box, and McClenahan was able to place the ball into the back on the net with 16 seconds remaining for her second goal of the contest.

Junior Erica Stein played the first half in goal for the Eagles, while junior Kaele Leonard took over to start the second half, preserving the team shutout.  Stein earned the victory in goal for Emory, improving to 10-2-0 for her career.

The Eagles, now 1-0-0 on the season, will wrap-up their west coast trip on Labor Day, facing off against the 19th-ranked University of Redlands at 8:00 PM on Monday night.
