Fifth-Ranked Emory and 19th-Ranked Redlands Play to 1-1 Tie

The fifth-ranked Emory University women's soccer team battled back from a one goal deficit, forcing a 1-1 double-overtime tie with the 19th-ranked University of Redlands on Monday night in Redlands, CA.

Trailing 1-0 in the first half after a seventh-minute goal scored by the Bulldog's Fionna Connolly, Emory freshman Charlotte Butker scored her first collegiate goal in the 25th minute to tie the match at a goal apiece.  Another freshman, Emily Feldman, assisted on the play.

After Butker's equalizer, neither team scored the rest of regulation, or in either of the two overtime periods, forcing the tie.

Junior goalkeeper Kaele Leonard played the entire second half and both overtimes for Emory, finishing the game with three saves.  Junior Erica Stein played the first half, making one save and taking the decision to move her record to 1-0-1 on the year.

Emory outshot Redlands 15-14 in the game, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, and a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

With the tie, Emory and Redlands each moved to 1-0-1 on the season.  The Eagles will return to action on Saturday, September 10th, continuing their five-game season opening road trip against Roanoke College at 6:30 PM.
