Fourth-Ranked Women’s Soccer Defeats Thomas 2-0

The Emory University women's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals to keep their undefeated season alive, defeating Thomas University 2-0 on Friday night at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

With the win, Emory improved to 6-0-1 on the season, while Thomas dropped to 3-4-1 on the year with the loss.

After a scoreless first half, Emory's Lidija Barauskas scored her second goal of the season at the 48-minute mark, collecting a cross deflected by a Night Hawk defender, and shooting into the back of the net for the goal.

The Eagles picked up some insurance in the 65th minute, as sophomore Clare Mullins scored her first goal of the campaign on a long shot from 20 yards out.  Junior Merrill Bachouros picked up her third assist of the season on the goal, tying her for the team lead.

Goalkeepers Erica Stein and Kaele Leonard combined for the shutout, the team's fifth-straight and sixth overall through seven games this season.  Leonard, who earned the win in the game, made two saves, and increased her scoreless minute streak to 690.  She is now just over 50 minutes shy of the school record for consecutive scoreless minutes in goal.

The Eagles outshot Thomas 19-4 in the game, including an 8-0 edge in the first half.  Emory also held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, and a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.

Emory will return to action on Sunday, traveling to the University of the South for a 3:30 game against the Tigers.
