Leonard Sets School Record in 6-0 Win over Agnes Scott

Emory University junior Kaele Leonard set a new program record for consecutive scoreless minutes by a goalkeeper, leading the fourth-ranked Eagles to a 6-0 win over Agnes Scott College on Wednesday night.

Needing just five minutes and 46 seconds of scoreless play to match the previous record of 740 minutes and 46 seconds, set by former Eagle Amy Franciscovich during the 2005 season, Leonard started the second half of play, and eclipsed the mark during the 51st minute of action.  She was able to hold the Scotties scoreless through 21 minutes and 46 seconds, bringing her new school-record streak to 755:46 and counting, a streak spanning her last 16 games played, dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Emory's defense matched a program record with its seventh-consecutive shutout, previously achieved during the 1998 and 2005 seasons.  The Eagles held the Scotties without a shot during the game.

Emory's offense followed suit with the defense, as the Eagles took a season-high 40 shots during the game, 18 of which were on goal.

The Eagles got on the board in the second minute of play, as sophomore Kelly Costopoulos scored the eventual game winner off an assist from freshman Charlotte Butker.  Three minutes later, Clare Mullins scored her third goal in as many games, converting a long shot off a corner kick from Lee Bachouros.

Bachouros assisted on her second goal of the game in the 11th minute, this time on a long pass to set up a breakaway for Caroline Coates, who scored her second of the season.  Costopoulos added her second goal of the game and third of the season in the 21st minute, while Butker capped off the first half scoring with a strike just 38 seconds after Costopoulos', extending Emory's lead to 5-0 heading into halftime.

Emory added one goal in the second half, as freshman Jennifer Grant scored her first collegiate goal, with an assist from Emily Mitchell.

With the win, Emory improved to 8-0-1 on the season, while Agnes Scott dropped to 2-5-2.  It was the seventh-consecutive victory for the Eagles, who improved to 3-0-0 in home games this year.

Emory will now turn its attention towards University Athletic Association (UAA) play, as the Eagles will open their conference schedule on Saturday at 2:30 PM ET at the 20th-ranked University of Chicago.
