In a clash of two of the nation's top-10 rated Division III women's soccer programs, the No. 6-rated Emory women's squad battled its way to a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Washington University Sunday afternoon at the Woodruff PE Center.  With the win, the Eagles upped their mark to 9-0-2 while the Bears slipped to 11-2.

Junior Merrill Bachouros accounted for the lone goal of the contest, that coming at the 19:11 mark, as she capitalized on a crossing pass from senior Caroline Coates.  The score was her fifth of the campaign, tying for the team lead, and first game winner of the season.

Once again, the Eagles' defense and goalkeeping rose to the challenge with the junior goalkeeper tandem of Erica Stein and Kaele Leonard combining for the team's ninth shutout of the year.  Stein logged the opening 45 minutes and made a pair of saves en route to raising her record to 7-0-1.   Leonard played the final half and came up big with a season-high five saves including one on Jessica Johnson's point-blank attempt from just outside the keeper box at 85:14 that preserved Emory's lead. 

Emory has outscored the opposition by a 31-2 margin this season and returns to action on Friday (Oct. 14) when it plays at Case Western Reserve University.
