Mullins Scores Twice in 3-0 Emory Win over Brandeis

Emory University sophomore Clare Mullins scored a pair of goals on Friday night at the Woodruff P.E. Center, leading the fifth-ranked Eagles to a 3-0 win over conference-rival Brandeis University.

Mullins scored her first goal of the game just 35 seconds into the game, converting the goal off a quick touch past the goalkeeper from in front of the net after passes from Merrill Bachouros and Caroline Coates

After both team were held scoreless for the remainder of the half, Emory extended its lead in the 57th minute, as Lidija Barauskas scored her third goal of the season off a cross from Coates.  It was the second assist of the game and fourth of the season for Coates.

Emory secured the win in the 70th minute as Mullins struck for the second time, touching in a free kick from Lee Bachouros, who earned her fifth assist of the campaign on the play.

Mullins is now second on the team with six goals this season, and third on the squad with 13 points.  The game-winning goal was her second of the campaign.  It was the second multiple goal game of Mullins' career.

Emory junior goalkeepers Erica Stein and Kaele Leonard played a half, making one save apiece.  Stein earned the victory, improving to 10-0-1 on the year.  The shutout was the team's 13th through 15 games this season, and fifth straight.

The Eagles outshot the Judges 20-8 in the game, including a 10-3 edge in the second half, and a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.  Emory took six corner kicks in the game, compared to three for Brandeis.

With the win, Emory remains in first place in the University Athletic Association (UAA) with a 4-0-1 record in conference play, one point better than Case Western Reserve University, which won earlier in the evening.  The Eagles also improved to 13-0-2 overall on the season, extending their program-best undefeated streak to start a season.

Brandeis dropped to 6-9-2 on the season with the loss, including a 0-4-1 mark in UAA games.

The Eagles will continue their season-ending three-game home stand on Sunday, hosting New York University at 1:30 PM.  Emory can clinch the UAA Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a win on Sunday, combined with a Case loss or tie.
