Bachouros & Gorodetsky Named UAA Athletes of the Week

Emory University junior Merrill Bachouros and sophomore Lauren Gorodetsky were named the University Athletic Association's (UAA) Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively, after helping the fifth-ranked Eagles to a pair of NCAA Tournament wins last weekend.

Bachouros scored three goals over the two NCAA Tournament games last weekend to lead the Eagles to the round of 16.  During Saturday night's 3-0 win over Piedmont College, Bachouros scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute, and followed with an insurance goal just over two minutes later, becoming just the third player in Emory history to score multiple goals in an NCAA game.  The forward scored again the following day, converting a shot at the 57:15 mark en route to a 2-0 Emory win over Centre College in the second round of the tournament.  Bachouros leads all Emory players with eight goals and 20 points this season, and has tied the program record for career NCAA Tournament goals with three.

This was the first UAA Athlete of the Week honor of Bachouros' career.

Gorodetsky played all 180 minutes of the Eagles' two shutout victories last weekend, helping limit opposing teams to a combined four shots, only one of which was on goal.  During Saturday's first round game against Piedmont, Gorodetsky led an Emory defense that held the Lions to just one shot, and no shots on goal.  On Sunday's win over Centre College, the sophomore helped limit the Colonels to three shots, including just one on goal.  Gorodetsky and the Eagles' backfield has recorded a program-record 16 shutouts this season, while registering a 0.20 team goals-against average.

Gorodetsky, a 2010 all-American who was named the UAA's 2011 Most Valuable Player earlier in the week, has been named the UAA Athlete of the Week three times this season and seven times over her career, five times for soccer and twice for her efforts on Emory's softball team.

Emory matched a program record for wins with a 17-0-2 overall record this season.  The Eagles will face 20th-ranked Williams College in the third round of the NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 19th at 1:30 PM in Geneva, NY.
