Four Eagles Named to NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region Women’s Soccer Teams

The Emory University women's soccer team was well represented on the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region team, as sophomores Lauren Gorodetsky and Clare Mullins  and juniors Kaele Leonard and Merrill Bachouros were recognized for their performances during the season.

Gorodetsky and Mullins each earned a spot on the all-region first team, while Leonard was named to the second team and Bachouros to the third.  It marked the second all-region honor of Gorodetsky's career, and the first each for Mullins, Leonard and Bachouros.

Gorodetsky was a key player for an Emory defense that allowed just five goals all season, finishing third among NCAA Division III teams with a 0.242 goals-against average, the best mark in the program's history.  The Eagles' backline shut out a program-record 16 opponents, good for a 0.8 shutout percentage, also the third-best mark among Division III squads in 2011.  The sophomore center back contributed offensively as well, scoring four goals for eight points during the year.  Three of her four goals scored were game-winning strikes.  Gorodetsky was also named to the all-America second team and the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Valuable Player earlier in the season.

Mullins finished the year tied for third on the team with six goals, including two game-winning strikes, and was fourth on the squad with 15 points.  Starting each of Emory's games for the second-straight year, the center midfielder also provided a defensive presence for the Eagles, helping the backline during its record-setting campaign.  Earlier in the year, she was named to the all-UAA First Team and was named the conference's defensive player of the week on October 24th.

Leonard played the second half and overtime periods of each of the Eagles' 20 games this season, allowing just three goals in over 939 minutes, and finishing the year ranked third among Division III goalkeeper with a 0.288 goals-against average and sixth with a 0.909 save percentage.  During the year, she set a school record with a streak of 776 minutes and 30 seconds of scoreless play in goal.  Leonard was named an honorable mention to the 2011 all-UAA team.

Bachouros finished the 2011 campaign tied for the team lead with 20 points, coming on a team-high eight goals and four assists.  Two of her goals during the season were game winners.  She had three two-goal games during the season, including a pair against Piedmont College during the Eagles' 3-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  The junior forward matched the school record for career NCAA Tournament goals with three.  Bachouros was named the conference offensive player of the week on November 14th.

The Eagles finished the season ranked eighth in Division III, advancing to the round of 16 of the NCAA Championships with an overall record of 17-1-2.  Emory claimed its sixth UAA Championship and recorded the first undefeated regular season in the history of Emory Athletics in 2011.
