#1 Emory Bests Agnes Scott to Remain Undefeated

The top-ranked Emory University women's soccer team improved to 8-0-2 on the season on Wednesday night with a 5-0 win against crosstown opponent Agnes Scott College at the Woodruff P.E. Center.

Emory controlled possession throughout the first half, but Agnes Scott's defense held tough, holding the Eagles scoreless for the majority of the frame.  However, the Eagles finally broke through in the 39th minute on junior co-captain Kelly Costopoulos' team-leading fifth goal of the season, scoring off a pass from junior Charlotte Butker, who earned her conference-best eighth assist of the season on the play.

Emory would add on a pair more before the end of the half.  In the 42nd minute, a corner kick by sophomore Claudia Rowe was redirected in the box by senior Lee Bachouros to Butker, who was able to finish the play off with a shot for the goal, her fourth of the campaign.  In the 43rd minute, Rowe was taken down inside the six-yard box, setting up a penalty kick that senior co-captain Ashley Kaiser converted for not only her first goal of the season, but the first goal of the defender's career.

The Eagles added on two more in the second half, with senior Katy Kruse scoring her third goal of the season on an assist from freshman Ally Peterson in the 63rd minute, and freshman Ariana Robin registering her first collegiate goal, deflecting a shot off a defender and into the back of the net in the 83rd minute.

Butker finished the game with a goal and an assist, and leads all Eagles with eight assists and 16 points.  Senior goalkeeper Erica Stein played a scoreless first half for the Eagles to earn the win and improve to 4-0-0 on the season.

With the loss, Agnes Scott fell to 5-7-0 this season.

The Eagles will return to conference play this weekend, as the team will head to St. Louis, MO to face University Athletic Association (UAA) rival Washington University at 12:00 PM ET on Sunday.
