Gorodetsky Repeats as UAA MVP; Six Other Eagles Named to all-UAA Team

Emory University junior Lauren Gorodetsky was named the co-Most Valuable Player of the University Athletic Association (UAA), and was joined by junior Veronica Romero on the all-UAA First Team.  In addition, junior co-captain Kelly Costopoulos, sophomore Emily Feldman and junior Greta Jochmann were named to the all-UAA Second Team, while junior Lauren Drosick and senior Kaele Leonard were each honorable mentions.

Gorodetsky became the first women's soccer player in Emory history to repeat as the UAA MVP, and just fifth player in UAA history, joining Rochester's Libbie Tobin (1992-93) and Kris Vander Plaat (1995-96), Chicago's Renee Neuner (2002-03) and Washington University's Caryn Rosoff (2007 and 2009).  Only one UAA men's or women's soccer player has ever won three-consecutive MVP awards – Carnegie Mellon's Adam Hibshman (2000-02).

Gorodetsky, who was the only active conference player to be named to the UAA 25-Year Anniversary Team, was named to her third all-UAA First Team as well, joining Diana Spock (1993-95),  Andrea Pawliczek (1998-2001), Stacy Epstein (1987-90), Skye Hardin (1993-94, 1996), Beth Schaefer (1990-92), and Annie Schenck (2000-01) as the only Eagles to earn at least three all-UAA First Team selections (both Pawliczek and Epstein earned four all-UAA First Team selections).

Gorodetsky has been the leader of an Eagles' defense that currently ranks 16th among NCAA Division III teams with a 0.454 goals-against average, and 23rd with a .611 shutout percentage.  The center back has contributed to the team's 11 shutouts during the campaign, including a conference-best four in UAA games.  Offensively, Gorodetsky has added three assists during the season, including one against Washington University.  She is also a two-time All-America selection.

Romero has turned in a career campaign in 2012, tying for the team lead with seven goals and 18 points.  She was second in the UAA with four goals scored in conference games, including both goals during the Eagles' 2-2 tie against Washington University, and game-winning scores against Chicago and Case Western Reserve.  Romero also finished third in the UAA with nine points in conference play.  The forward recorded a career-high three assists against Sewanee on September 15th.  This was Romero's first career all-conference honor.

Costopoulos earned a spot on the all-UAA second team for the second time in her career, after being named to the team and claiming UAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2010.  This season, the center midfielder is tied for the team lead with seven goals, and is third on the squad with 17 points.  She leads all Emory players with four game-winning goals during the campaign, and is fourth in school history with nine game-winning goals over her career.  Costopoulos scored a goal in UAA competition against Rochester, and assists on goals against Chicago and Case Western Reserve.

Feldman, a sophomore forward for the Eagles, has played in all 18 games for the Eagles this season, making 11 starts.  She ranks fifth on the team with 12 points, coming on four goals and four assists, including a game-winning 'golden goal' against Franklin & Marshall College earlier in the season.  Feldman finished UAA play with two goals and two assists, including a one-goal, two-assist performance against Case Western Reserve.  This was the first conference postseason honor of Feldman's career.

In her first season on the team, Jochmann, a junior transfer, has contributed on both the offensive and defensive side of the field as the team's holding center midfielder.  She has started all 18 games for the Eagles this year and recorded three assists, including one in conference play during Emory's UAA win over Rochester.  Defensively, Jochmann has aided Emory outshoot opposing teams 446-108 this year, including a 194-51 edge in shots on goal.

Drosick's honorable mention to the all-UAA team was the first conference honor of her career, as the junior defender started all 18 games for the Eagles during the season.  Splitting time at center and outside back, she was one of the leading contributors to the team's 11 shutouts, helping to hold opponents to an average of 6.0 shots and 2.8 shots on goal per game.  Her one assist for the campaign came during conference play in the Eagles' win over Case Western Reserve.  Drosick was named the UAA Athlete of the Week on October 10th.

Leonard came off the bench to start the second half of games in goal in each of the team's 18 games this season.  She finished the year with a 0.41 goals-against average and an .826 save percentage, to go along with a 5-1-5 record.  Leonard currently ranks second in school history in career goals-against average (0.34), third in save percentage (.900) and fifth in both wins (23) and saves (99).  This was the second-straight season that she has been named an honorable mention to the all-UAA team.

The Eagles were selected to the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championships as an at-large squad, after finishing the season with an 11-1-6 record, and ranked 16th in the NSCAA poll and eighth in the D3Soccer.com poll.  Emory will face DePauw University in the opening round of the tournament at 7:30 PM on Saturday, November 10th in Danville, KY.
