#9 Women’s Soccer to Play at #23 NYU, Brandeis this Weekend

The ninth-ranked Emory University Women's Soccer Team will face a pair of conference road tests this weekend, when the Eagles travel to New York to face 23rd-ranked New York University on Friday, October 17th, and Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts on Sunday, October 19th.  Both contests are slated for 1:30 PM starts.

UAA Update
After two games of competition across the conference, New York University is in the lead in the UAA standings with a 2-0-0 record.  Second-ranked Washington (Mo.) is in second place with a 1-0-1 mark, followed by four teams - #5 Carnegie Mellon, Brandeis, #13 Chicago and Rochester – with 1-1-0 records.  Emory currently sits in seventh place with a 0-1-1 UAA record, with Case Western Reserve rounding out the standings at 0-2-0.

Other UAA games on Friday, each starting at 7:00 PM, include Chicago (10-2-0) at Rochester (5-4-3), Carnegie Mellon (9-1-0) at Brandeis (11-2-0) and Washington (10-0-2) at Case Western Reserve (7-3-2).  On Sunday, Carnegie Mellon will be at NYU, Chicago at Case Western Reserve and Washington at Rochester, with each starting at 1:30 PM.

Emory Eagles

Emory stands at 7-1-3 for the season, including a 3-0-1 road record this season.  After a 2-1 loss to Chicago last Saturday, the team's first of the season, Emory dropped to ninth in both the NSCAA and D3Soccer.com polls, and to second in South Atlantic Region rankings.  The Eagles have outscored opponents by a 22-6 margin this season, averaging 2.0 goals per game (119th in Division III) and recording a 0.51 goals-against average (25th in Division III).  The squad has outshot opposing teams 242-88, including a 135-38 edge in shots on goal.

Emory's offense has been led by seniors Emily Feldman and Karina Rodriguez, who have a team-best four goals this season, while sophomore Cristina Ramirez leads all Eagles with 10 points (three goals and four assists).  Senior Charlotte Butker is tied with Ramirez for the team lead with four assists.  Defensively, junior Liz Arnold has recorded four individual shutouts, and has registered a 0.54 goals-against average (27th in Division III) and a .842 save percentage.

Emory is led by Head Coach Sue Patberg, now in her 10th year with the team.  She has compiled a 133-30-29 record with the Eagles entering Tuesday's game, good for a .772 winning percentage.  During her 22-year career as a college head coach, which includes stints at Division I programs in Georgia and Minnesota, Patberg is 279-117-47.  She is assisted by Rachel Moreland, Caroline Coates and goalkeeper coach Mike Wentzler.

NYU Violets
NYU will enter Friday's match on a seven-game winning streak, including UAA wins over Rochester and Case Western Reserve, both 1-0 in double-overtime.  The Violets are 9-3-0 overall this season, including a 4-1-0 mark at home, and checked in at 23rd in the latest NSCAA poll, and third in the East Region rankings.  The team has outscored its opponents 23-8 this season, ranking 150th in Division III with 1.92 goals per game and 47th with a 0.645 goals-against average.  The Violets have outshot opposing squads 211-73, including a 105-35 edge in shots on goal.

NYU's offense is led by Cami Crawford, who has scored six goals and assisted on one other, while Melissa Menta has added nine points on three goals and three assists, and Lexi Clarke leads all Violets with six assists.  Cassie Steinberg has played every minute in goal this season for the team, ranking 51st in Division III with a 0.645 GAA, in addition to a .765 save percentage.

NYU is under the leadership of Head Coach Michelle Canning, who has a 40-24-4 record during her four years with the program.  She is assisted by Jen Leaverton, Kim Wyant and Amy Johnson.

Emory is 12-1-6 all-time against NYU, including a 5-1-4 record in games played on the road.  Last season at the Woodruff P.E. Center, the Eagles defeated NYU 2-1, behind goals from former Eagles Kelly Costopoulos and Lauren Drosick, while outshooting the Violets 24-3.  For her three game career against NYU, Charlotte Butker has scored a goal and assisted on another.

Brandeis Judges
The Judges received votes in the most recent D3Soccer.com poll, and are ranked fifth in the New England Region.  The team will begin the weekend with a record of 11-2-0, including a 7-1-0 mark at home, and recently saw an 11-game winning streak come to a close with a 2-0 loss at Rochester last weekend.  Brandeis has outscored opponents 26-5 this season, and ranks 119th in Division III with 2.0 goals per game and 14th with a 0.385 goals-against average.  The Judges average 20.3 shots and 9.8 shots on goal per game this season, compared to just 4.8 and 2.3 for their opponents.

Brandeis' offense has been paced by senior Sapir Edalati (nine goals and six assists) and freshman Samantha Schwartz (seven goals and three assists), while sophomore Holly Szafran leads the team with seven assists.  Senior Michelle Savuto (0.27 GAA, .882 save percentage) and sophomore Alexis Grossman (0.37 GAA, .778 save percentage) have split time in goal.

Brandeis is led by Head Coach Denise Dallamora, who is now in her 35th season with the program, and has a career record of 310-257-58, good for a .542 winning percentage.  She is assisted by Associate Head Coach Kerry Baldwin, and goalkeeper coach John Conlon.

Emory holds an 18-6-3 record all-time against Brandeis, including a mark of 9-2-2 in games played in Waltham.  Last season, in a 3-0 win over the Judges at the WoodPEC, both Cristina Ramirez and Karina Rodriguez scored goals, while Charlotte Butker tallied an assist.

Emory Notes
Emory is 3-0-2 in games following a loss since the start of the 2010 season… Charlotte Butker's assist on Saturday was the 26th of her career, putting her in sole possession of second place in school history and just five behind the program record of 31, currently held by Sylvia Ghani (1994-97)… Nine different players have registered at least one goal for the Eagles this season, and 16 different players have at least a goal or an assist… Emory holds a 114-39-25 record all-time in UAA play, good for a .711 winning percentage… The Eagles are 49-25-17 all-time in UAA road games for a .632 winning percentage.
